Another type of poker variant is badugi. In this variation, the dealer shuffles four cards instead of five. Players can choose to draw from the deck once during each round. Like in the standard game, the kicker is the top-ranking card in the deck.

To get started, each player needs to place a bet, called the ante. Generally, the ante is a fixed amount, but in some cases, a player may be required to ante up before the hand is dealt.
